the new army promotion point system , e5 enlisted promotion points

The Army’s G1 announces new SGT/SSG promotion point system
Soldiers in the grade of E4 and E5 are likely lose promotion points under the newly revised promotion points system
which is set to take effect 01 June 2011. The new promotion point system promises to overhaul the broke enlisted
promotion system that is currently in place so that there is fairness across the board and choose the most qualified
Soldiers for promotion. Under the current 800 point system all Soldiers get the same amount of points for both Sergeant
and Staff Sergeant promotion.

The Army’s new promotion point system will not award points for the promotion board or Commander’s points, they will
only count as a Go/No Go. The amount of points that will be awarded will be different for E5 and E6, for example to max
out on awards for E5 a Soldier will need 125 points while to make E6 the Soldier will need 165 Points so good luck to
those Soldiers that need 798 because I have seen many Junior NCOs with no more that a couple of lonely Army
Achievement Medals (AAM) pined on their uniforms so yes this change will hurt a lot a Soldiers especially in the
beginning as most Soldiers will see their points drop when the new system takes effect. The new promotion system
awards points as follows:

Points for combat experience will be awarded to all Soldiers that serve in a combat zone each month of service will be
worth 2 points and a maximum of 30 points for promotion to Sergeant and 60 points for Staff Sergeant.  The bottom line,
like it or not, the new point system will take effect so we all got to suck it up and do what we are expected to, that is adapt
and overcome. We have a year to get our points in line so that we are not scratching our heads when the change takes
effect, get some awards by volunteering, going to the Soldier boards and always give your best performance.
Remember that hard work and persistence will pay off in the end it all depends on how bad you really want it.
