From SMA Chandler
Team – Are you an NCO waiting to attend the Advanced Leader Course-Common Core? This 90-day
distance learning course is required to be considered for promotion to sergeant first class. Currently there
are many eligible attendees but a limited number of school seats. Human Resources Command is enrolling
eligible Soldiers in the course based on an order of merit list. ALC-CC attendees are prioritized as follows,
with highest priority first:
(1) staff sergeants who have already completed a required technical track course
(2) all other staff sergeants
(3) promotable sergeants who have already completed a required technical track course
(4) all other sergeants.
Within each priority group, date of rank is also considered when allocating seats. Remember, you are
ultimately responsible for your career, so be proactive and ready. You must remain eligible to attend, and
show-up once you have been identified to attend. About 20 percent of enrolled students are “no-shows”, so
finish your required course work within the 90-day time limit. Based on eligible seats, the Army expects to
reduce the backlog for all staff sergeants in the next 6-12 months, depending on your MOS. – SMA
