The 601st Aviation Support Battalion used structured training to address a shortage of NCOs supervising junior maintainers, according to an Army Sustainment article. CPT Alexandria Woodward, with background from LTC Andrew Eggers, describes a Ground Maintenance Training Program that began with 91B wheeled vehicle mechanics.

The framework records task training and evaluations to give leaders a clearer picture of each maintainer’s demonstrated proficiency. The authors describe a folder containing training records, task lists, counseling and recommendations for duty assignments.

Under the described approach, Soldiers carry that folder when changing assignments and present it to the receiving section sergeant. The folder may also be reviewed at promotion and other boards within the program.

The article reports experience with this battalion-level effort and recommends wider use, an Army training circular and a dedicated database. For maintenance NCOs, it offers a professional-development discussion about documenting technical skills and sustaining training continuity.
